As I attempt to reintegrate into the reality of life around me after an amazing weekend of dancing, music, swimming, costumes, connecting and loving at Shambhala Music Festival this past weekend, many concepts are running through my mind. The festival is such a beautiful experience of creative manifestation at it greatest. A celebration of music, art and life. Set in the mountainous bush, by the flowing Salmo river, the location presents so much natural beauty, added to this is the glory of human creation. From the tremendous stages built to feel like you are in a different world, incredible art works, to the beats and music all around, costumes galore and the inspiring beauty of human connection. I love the day light hours, when one is able to watch people expressing pure bliss. Lazy days spent lounging in the river, some choosing to dance, to swim, to chase one another, some gifting fruit to the masses, and others laying quietly in embrace.
Our human desire to dance is inspiring. It occurs in all cultures, and in its purest form is a highly spiritual act. How is it that the music motivates each body to move in such different ways? And as bodies dance for four days, with no other care in the world, the freedom and flexibility in their limbs, hips and heart manifests absolute fluidity and grace.
Some of my observations from this weekend of dancing and connection:
-Feeling the earth beneath your feet, the sun on you skin and the flow of river water past every cell of your body, creates a beautiful connection to the earth that must be nourished and cherished. It is the earth and her energy that stimulates all life as we know it, especially human life.
-Embracing the energy of music in your soul, and allowing the expression of that energy to flow through your body is one of the most nourishing art forms available.
-Being yourself, talking to strangers, and connecting with the people around you is a beautiful gift every person is able to give to the world. We are all connected beings seeking the same thing, happiness.
-Waking after a good sleep and engaging in hours of connected, energetic dancing is one of the best ways to welcome a new day.
-Sleeping and eating delicious, nutritious food make you feel amazing.
-Practicing yoga outside, truly connected to the earth, sand under your feet, sun shine on your face, a river to rinse in and a supportive community of friends and family around you is pure bliss.
The impression that sticks most clearly in my mind is embracing and harnessing our personal power, and our role in the creation of the reality around us. How do you show up? Your presence has a profound influence on the beauty of the world. Do you have a smile on your face? Being surrounded by smiling faces is a joy for all, and every one of us has a responsibility to create this joy. Watching the art, installations, costumes, connection, smiles and free-flowing love created such a beautiful space and festival. You can’t buy this, it is created and freely given by every person present, that is our power of creation. Taking this out of the festival and back into the world is a gift. Arriving with a smile, a giggle, a positive attitude and an open and accepting heart makes this world a beautiful inspiring place.
